Battles: Atlas
In Greek mythology, Atlas was a titan, a parent of the Gods. When Atlas was defeated by the Gods, Zeus condemned Atlas to stand at the western edge of the earth, and hold the sky on his shoulders for all eternity. Battles’ latest single, of the same name as the infamous titan, serves a similar purpose. While Battles’ latest album, Mirrored, is more than capable of carrying itself, Atlas lifts the album to a new level. Weighing in at almost eight minutes, and bearing no vocals, Atlas could easily become boring behemoth of a track, but the thumping beat, carefully countered by a single guitar, ensures the song is always interesting. Grab these tracks while you can, as with today’s luck they’ll be down in roughly three minutes.
