The Minor Canon: No Good Deed Goes Unpunished

Gritty and melancholy, The Minor Canon’s music is beautifully dirty. Those are the first words from the press release for The Minor Canon’s debut album, No Good Deed Goes Unpunished. Sorry guys, but I’m just not hearing the grit. To me, The Minor Canon sound about as clean and inoffensive as pop gets. That’s not necessarily a bad thing; every now and then something squeaky clean turns out to be great. However, their overall sound ensures that won’t be the case. Sounding a bit like a cross between Snow Patrol and Death Cab For Cutie, The Minor Canon are a little boring, and a lot predictable. I honestly can’t see them achieving much success in the indie world. However, they seem like the perfect fit for mainstream success. You can almost hear one of their songs playing on a certain Thursday night drama. Still, that doesn’t give them a ‘get out of jail free card’. While No Good Deed is far from a bad album, it’s pretty far from a great one, too.The Minor Canon – A False Start.mp3
