Mirah & The Spectraphone International | Emergence Of The Primary Larva
June 10, 2007 at 8:48 am (Bark Bark Bark, Black Dice, Lil' Wayne, Los Campesinos!, Mirah, Shapes and Sizes, mp3s)

Somehow, Mirah reminds me of Joanna Newsom. They both have the whimsical feel, as if they’re from another time and place, they’re both deeply influenced by classical music, and they’re both oddballs in a genre inhabited by eccentrics. But in place on the pretension that seems to drip off everything Newsom records, Mirah has a certain playful deviousness, in the way she refuses to adhere to conventional lyrical structure, in the way she somehow turns a song about the birth of a beetle into something beautiful. You can buy Mirah’s latest album, Share This Place (Stories & Observations By) this August, on K Records.
