For better or worse, Fountains of Wayne are back, with their new album, Traffic & Weather, set for a release on April 3rd. T&W is the follow-up to their 2003 album, Welcome Interstate Managers, which spawned the love-it-or-hate-it (but mainly hate it) mega-hit Stacey’s Mom. The question on most people’s minds is whether or not Fountains Of Wayne have another hit of that magnitude left in them. So, do they? Possibly. Upon first listen, Traffic & Weather is one their catchiest, well-written albums to date. However, all that catchiness could be covering up for lack of substance. Still, the album makes a good first impression, with lyrics like “I like them shorts/ I’ve never seen them before/ I’d like them more/ On my bedroom floor“, and the Beatles-esque Revolving Dora. Have fun.
