Au Revoir Simone: The Bird Of Music

Up here in Vermont, I think we’ve finally gotten our last blizzard. It began late Saturday night, and is supposed to stop sometime tomorrow. So far, we’ve got a little over two feet of snow. There’s something amazing about waking up and seeing the world under a blanket of snow. First thing in the morning, before cars are on the road, the snow looks almost obscenely white clean, and pure; almost like Au Revoir Simone. In case you don’t know, Au Revoir Simone is an indie pop band out of Brooklyn, specializing in squeaky clean songs. Unlike snow, cleanliness isn’t always a good thing in music; a little grit never hurt anyone. ARS’s music simply sounds too clean to me. Every keyboard stroke is perfectly placed, and every vocal sounds as cute as a button. While this certainly detracts from their overall sound, they’re still fun to listen to in short bursts; they made a perfect accompaniment to the falling snow this morning. Au Revoir Simones new album, The Bird Of Music, is out now, on Moshi Moshi Records.
