Classics: Modest Mouse – The Moon & Anarctica

March 24, 2007 at 6:25 am (classics, Modest Mouse, mp3s, The Moon & Antarctica)

Welcome to the first edition of a new feature I hope to implement here on SC, called Classics. Essentially, Classics takes an artist getting talked about these days, and takes a look at their back catalog, and any gems hidden in them. Today’s artist is Modest Mouse, and the album is  2000’s The Moon & Antarctica. When asked what their favorite Modest Album is, fans will almost always reply TM&A. I can’t help but be one of those people. TM&A is the antithesis of albums like Good News and We Were Dead; while you liked those albums the second you heard them, TM&A takes it’s time growing on you. Upon you first listen, you’re not likely to hear what makes this album so great. But slowly, everything comes into focus, almost track by track, and you realize that you’re listening to Modest Mouse at their peak.

While it’s hard to pick a favorite Modest Mouse album, I think this one is the one for me.
