Frog Eye’s latest album, Tears Of The Valedictorian, is a force to be reckoned with. 35 minutes of swirling guitars and yelped vocals, it’s their best album since The Golden River, and quite possibly better than that. If one track can sum up Tears it would have to be ‘Bushels’. Screaming high-pitched, rambling lyrics against a swelling guitar, Carey Mercer sounds a bit like a homeless person you’d pass on the street. You can hear him from a distance, muttering nonsense to himself. As you draw closer, his eyes close in on you, and the whispers turn into screams. You’re scared, but also a bit enthralled. If bums had bands, they’d probably sound a lot like Frog Eyes. I mean that in the best way possible. Tears Of The Valedictorian out now on Absolutely Kosher.
