Smashing Pumpkins | Tarantula

May 18, 2007 at 1:17 pm (mp3s, Smashing Pumpkins)

Billy Corgan

I’m a little blown away. This rocks, hard. Way harder than that 30-second clip and the album cover would suggest. It’s like everywhere you look, guitars! Sorry for the poor quality.  I have no clue if this track is okay to post, so please email if it needs to be taken down. For now, I’m off to listen to this some more. Wow.

I don’t quite like it and I’m a huuuge Pumpkins fan. The vocals aren’t quite there (except in the chorus)… it sounds a bit too TheFutureEmbrace for my tastes.

I guess let’s just thank god that there’s no stupid synth in it.

good track. this eases some of my fears about the upcoming album. to commentor #2: I’m not sure how in the world you can equate this track to thefutureembrace…aside from Billy’s voice, they are ENTIRELY different beasts.

I’m a huge Billy Corgan fan, I own all his albums (yes even Zwan) and have seen him live recently on the Future Embrace tour (not so amazing album, but it was awesome live when he soloed over most of the songs).

This song is a glorious return to the good ol’ days. It’s sounds familiar, but is different enough to be fresh. It has the metal edge you hear throughout many Mellon Collie songs and promises at least a solid album. I think what will make or break the album will be the softer songs that we all know will be there.

The album sucks….What a dissapointment…Billster is washed up and worn out. He sounds like he is whining, and the album is way over-produced. Sorry Bill maybe next life. It’s over for ya

I worship the Pumpkins but `Tarantula` is too jaunty, happy and clean-sounding and is about as far away from being `classic Pumpkins` as could possibly be imagined.

    *sobs*

george1234 – how have you managed to hear the ‘album’ – it doesn’t get released for another month? I’m very grateful to get this single as a taster! Am really enjoying this record. Exciting and engaging without being cheesy. After the awful Future Embrace, I feared the worst. I went to see Billy on his Future Embrace tour in London and apart from one track, the whole experience was dire. The audience looked really bored and most were just chatting through the entire gig. Thankfully it seems Jimmy has once again restored my faith! His Complex album was wonderful and I am starting to wonder whether he IS the magic behind the Pumpkins. Anyway, not quite sure what the doubters are after but for me this tune rocks. Also good that it is provoking a strong reaction – positive and negative. Looking forward to hearing Zeitgeist – this track has whetted my apetite nicely.

‘tarantula’ rocks at a fuzzy warp speed. its ‘bodies’ meets ‘crash car star’ meets ‘drown’ (the soft break 3/4 into the song); but with a fresh production format. kudos.

Yikes…I have always been a huge smashing pumpkins fan, but seriously, Tarantula sucks.

I can’t really express what i feel about tarantula, but for me it really sounds like 70’s glam rock. but the setlist of paris looks quite good, with interesting (unknown) song titles and known classics. But why costs a ticket in the US 25 dollars and in europe over 50 euros???

    SMASHING PUMPKINS – Tarantula

I am a native Chicagoan/Original Pumpkins guy. And – an understatement – TARANTULA does, in fact, Rock. I actually find it necessary to sit down and have a cigarette and catch my breath each time this track ends.

A consistent quality about the Smashing Pumpkins BEST songs – like BURY ME – (and most of GISH) … QUIET …STAND INSIDE YOUR LOVE, etc… is that you can almost visualize blood on the studio walls and smoke rising fromthe ceiling at the end of the recording session. Like a crime scene. Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlain leave it all out on the floor. Why hold anything back?

And … speaking of Jimmy Chamberlain… MY GOD… has there EVER been a better drummer in the history of rock? Anybody even close?

I can only hope that the balance of ZEITGEIST is somewhere near the same league as this track. Rest up… we’ll need it.
