There’s an old New England saying, that you’ve all probably heard at some point in you life; if you don’t like the weather, wait ten minutes. Lately, that’s been particularly true. It was only a week ago that air conditioners (mine included) started going in due 90°F temperatures, but today we never even cracked 60°F. Over the weekend we even had a mini rainstorm. Unlike most, people, I like rainstorms, especially after an extended period of warmth. They’re a nice little reprieve from all that sunshine, and I love falling asleep to the sound of pounding rain. On Sunday, probably the worst day of out small storm, I decided to listen to Fennesz and Sakamoto’s new release, Cendre. Although it wanders from time to time, overall, Cendre is a shockingly peaceful record. The piano and laptop effects blend so effortlessly, and sound so natural together, it’s hard to believe this is considered a ‘challenging’ record. Mixed with the rain, Cendre put me into a sort of trance. For a little while,my life was simplified to just sitting on my floor, listening to a beautiful record. I love when things like that happen.
