B-Sides | Arcade Fire

Okay, so calling some of these b-sides might be a (huge) stretch, but that doesn’t take away from how cool it is to hear Arcade Fire performing songs so different from what we’re used to. It’s hard to believe these lo-fi folk-rockers would go on to become one of the most over-hyped (I love ’em, but you know it’s true) bands in recent memory. These tracks, mainly demos from the early 00’s, find Arcade Fire experimenting with alt-country and folk; while you can hear shards of their modern sound (‘Cars & Telephones’, ‘Burning Bridges . . .’), I can’t imagine anyone being genuinely impressed with these tracks. There are few, if any, lost treasures here. If you treat them like so, you’re likely to be disappointed. However, treat them like the interesting little oddities that they are, and you’re in for a pleasant surprise.
