Happy March 20th: LCD Soundsystem, Modest Mouse, and Panda Bear!

March 20, 2007 at 7:31 am (LCD Soundsystem, Modest Mouse, mp3s, Panda Bear, Person Pitch, Sound Of Silver, We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank)

Happy March 20th! In case you didn’t know, today is one of the best release days this year for music. Today, at least 7 big albums and one massive one are released. For now, I’ll focus on the three albums I’ll actually pick up today, but you can bet on more later. First is Sound Of Silver, the sophomore album from LCD Soundsystem. At this point SOS is the best reviewed album of the year and probably deserves that status; ‘North American Scum’ has achieved a sort of national anthem status among the indie community. Secondly is Modest Mouse’s We Were Dead. While this has received the most mixed reviews, it’s still one of my favorites; ‘Parting Of The Sensor’ is damn near perfect. Finally, I saved the best for last; Panda Bear’s Person Pitch. Today, I’ve included two mp3s from the album of the year; the sprawling centerpiece ‘Good Girl/Carrots’, and ‘Take Pills’. Have a great March 20th!

Week In Review: Arcade Fire, Feist, & LCD Soundsystem

March 10, 2007 at 3:57 pm (Arcade Fire, Feist, LCD Soundsystem, mp3s, Neon Bible, Sound Of Silver, The Reminder)

The week sure started out with a bang, but it wound down noticeably as the week wore on. While most were content to simply go with the flow, and listen to Arcade Fire’s stunning sophomore effort (which, mind you, I’m listening to right now) for the rest of the week, I was not. I need variety, and not even Neon Bible can satisfy that need. Luckily, two other sophomore albums came to my rescue; Feist’s The Reminder and LCD Soundsystem’s Sound Of Silver. These two albums have more in common that you might think; each is actually better than it’s predecessor, and each evinces it’s artist as a tighter and more mature musician. It’s weeks like these that make me wonder about that whole ‘sophomore slump’ thing.

LCD Soundsystem: Time To Get Away

February 12, 2007 at 9:16 pm (LCD Soundsystem, mp3 mixes, mp3s, Sound Of Silver)

Talk about deja vu. I just started listening to LCD Soundsystem’s new record, Sound Of Silver, this past weekend. The first track was okay, but nothing great. So, I was pretty happy when Get Innocuous faded into the background, and I started grooving out to Daft Punk Is Playing In My House. Until I realized that it wasn’t Daft Punk. I clicked on my iPod, and it turned out to be some song called Time To Get Away. Now, I’m no expert, but these two songs sound a hell of a lot alike to me. See for yourself:

After a few more listens, I got really curious. So, I fired up Audacity, and played the two tracks over each other. Something was just a little off, so I moved Time To Get Away over a little to the right, and the songs synced up. Don’t believe me? Listen to this:

Pretty freaky, eh?
